What I have Learned So Far

1.  One thing that I have learned about my senior project since I have started is that you can't be shy with anything you are doing.  I have learned how to communicate with people using different techniques that get me in obtaining information that I am in need of.

2. My evidence for this accomplishment has been my interview that I have done so far, because I needed certain information and I was able to obtaining it by asking different questions.

Defining the Essential Question

1. What are the most successful qualities in becoming a physical therapist?

2. Successful: Being able to help a patient.
    Qualities: Characteristics that make up a person.

3. Being able to identify what the problem(s) of the patient is.
    Coming up with solutions to fix or improve the patients problem(s).

4. My most important source so far has been the interview that I had with one of the physical therapist.

5 Min. Presentation Reflection

I think that was stood out about my presentation would have to be the content.  I think this becasue I got into some specifics on one of the technics that a physical therapist uses for a patient to get better.  The most challeging thing to do was to come up with a topic for my presentation.  I had no idea what I was going to do for my presentation and I didn't want to mention alot becasue I didn't know wether or not I would need that information for my final 2 hr. presentation.

Interview 1 Reflection

The most imporatant thing that I learned in the interview was the kinds of challeges a physical therapist goes through and the qualities one needs to have in order to be sucessful in that field.  I also found out that there are many resources that I can use for my senior project.  For example, I now know of different people that I can interview other than the place where I am going to be doing my service learning.

5 Minute Presentation

Objective: 

• Teach students the assistive devices in physical therapy such as the paraffin bath treatment.

Procedure:

• Explain what paraffin bath treatment is. 1 min.
• Explain how the paraffin bath treatment helps in physical therapy. 1 min.
• Demonstrate visual and the process it takes to make an affect on a patient with arthritis. 1 min.
• Ask questions relating to topic. 1 min.

Check For Understanding:

• Ask a question per group relating to the process of the paraffin wax treatment and how it helps a patient.

Resources/Matirials:

• All that is needed is a poster.  The poster would be of the process of the paraffin wax taking affect on a a patient.

Blog #2

1.  The person that I will interview a physical therapist named Larriani and she is a physical therapist at Methodist Hospital.  I chose her as my first  interviewee because she is familiar with that field and she had expirience.

2. Other question that I would ask would be:

• What is the most significant characteristic that a physical therapist needs?
• What type of physical therapy do you specialize in?

Topic Choice

My topic is physical therapy.

The reason why I chose this topic is because it is interesting to me.  It captures my attention because when a family member had a car accident, the doctors told her that there was a possibility that she might not be able to walk.  Although this was said, she went to a physical therapist and was able to walk and return to her regulars routines.  This is the reason why I chose it, because there is a chance to help people.

Something that I hope to accomplish after studying this topic all year is to know the challenges that a physical therapist goes through and the qualities that a physical tharapist needs in order to be successful.
